2017 Travel Trends According to Choice Hotels

Choice Hotels International (NYSE: CHH) released an infographic and detailed data regarding its predictions for the 2017 travel trends.

The 2017 Travel Trends Outlook Infographic by Choice Hotels International focuses exclusively on American travelers and their needs. The data collected through conducted by Newlio among a nationally representative sample of 1070 U.S. adults is, however enough to get a general idea about general trends and changes in travel among this segment of the world population.

Among the findings, the survey concludes that Americans prefer beach destinations in Florida and California (56%) more than they enjoy mountain areas (39%); and baby boomers enjoy going off the beaten path 31%. Another interesting aspect is that the personal travel budgets are up 42% over 2016, from $3,572 to $5,063. Hospitality pros should also note that Americans would rather splurge on food and beverages than on accommodation. Concretely, out of their total travel budget, Americans end up spending around 30% on accommodations and lodging.

As far as international destinations are concerned, Australia (63%), South America (38%), and Cuba (27%) are the top favorites. European destinations like Paris (21%), London (20%), and Rome (18%) are preferred by some 28% Americans who plan to travel to Europe in 2017.
