WTTC: Tourism for Tomorrow 2012 Kick Off

Every year the World Travel & Tourism Council invites tourism businesses, organizations, and even destinations to apply for the worldwide Tourism for Tomorrow Awards. The council just announced this year’s competition for gaining recognition via best practices in sustainable tourism. The 2012 Awards will be awarded at the WTTC Global Summit in Tokyo from 16-19 April, 2012.

Winning the WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow Awards has been compared to winning an Oscar or an Emmy by some. The comparison is appropriate too. Applicants to these awards, and particularly winners, have demonstrated the pinnacle of hospitality across the spectrum of the awards. The four competition categories for this year’s event are; Global Tourism Business, Conservation, Community Benefit, and Destination Stewardship. WTTC President David Scowsill has this to say about this year’s awards:

“The Tourism for Tomorrow Awards are unique with their rigorous three-step judging process that includes an expert on-site evaluation. Finalists are carefully chosen by an international team of approximately 20 judges representing a wide range of professional backgrounds and sustainable tourism expertise in the Travel & Tourism industry. I am delighted that over the past years the Awards, which recognise sustainable tourism practices, have grown immensely.”

In example, last year Alpine Pearls took home the Destination Stewardship prize, Guludo Beach Lodge won the Community Benefit Award, and Singita Pamushana was presented the Conservation Award. This year, Travelport, along with Travel Corporation’s Conservation Foundation, strategically partner with the WTTC in governing these awards.
