Every spring, as nature signals a fresh start, Greek wineries unlock their gates in a celebration known to wine lovers as “Open Doors.” This year, the scene is set for Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18, 2025. Throughout Greece, participating wineries stretch from the rugged hills of Northern Greece to the sun-drenched islands of the Aegean. Doors open wide at 11:00 in the morning and stay that way until dusk—offering a rare glimpse into the culture, the craft, and the landscapes that make Greek wine unique.

The weekend event flows with guided walks through vine rows, cellar tours scented by fermenting grapes, and tastings where visitors can appreciate everything from bold reds to crisp whites. Old stone estates and modern winemaking facilities alike throw in their twists: prize contests for guests, hands-on activities, and the kind of regional hospitality reserved for special guests.

Wine enthusiasts are encouraged to map their course across the wine roads of Greece, stopping at one or several wineries along the way. Each stop reveals a different story—of land, tradition, and innovation—with the chance to sample exceptional Greek wines in their birthplace. The countryside, set against blooming hills and the gentle hum of early summer, promises more than just a tasting; it offers an authentic experience of place.

How Open Doors Connects Oenophiles with Greece’s Winemaking Heart

Organized by the national and regional wine producer associations, Open Doors stands as a team effort—inviting locals and travelers to step beyond the tasting bar. Entry at every member winery is free. Guests can meet dedicated growers, watch the step-by-step process from vine to bottle, and walk among vineyard landscapes shaped by centuries of tradition.

Participating associations include:

A visit isn’t about sales pitches. It’s a slow walk through fields dappled with sunlight, a conversation with makers, a glass of wine against a backdrop of old vines and open sky. Visitors can savor a landscape that shapes every bottle—feeling the textures of the countryside, inhaling the aromatics of native grapes, and learning what makes the wines of Greece stand apart.
