Exploring the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius is sure to be a lot easier for tourists in 2012, thanks to a great new travel app designed and created by the Vilnius Tourist Information Center.

The makers of the new application, which runs on both the iPhone and Android smartphones, claim that “Vilnius Tourism” is the most comprehensive mobile application for the city yet, providing tourists with all the information they need at their fingertips to ensure their stay is as hassle free as possible.
Use the app to find attractions all over the city
Vilnius Tourism works in a similar fashion to many other travel apps. It uses the tried and tested interactive map format, overlaid with hundreds of interesting tourist sites, as well as the location of hotels, restaurants, bars, shops – you name it, you can find it with this app. Each destination featured comes with a short description and an image, as well as travel information so that users can identify the fastest way to reach it from their location.
The interactive map throws up all the nearby attractions
One of the more helpful features of the app is the ‘Near Me’ function. Click on this and the app immediately throws up all the points of interest within a 15 minute walk of the user’s location.
The app also allows for favorite places to be saved and highlighted permanently on the map, while sharing through social networks like Facebook is possible with an internet connection.

Vilnius Tourist Information Center stated that the app will be available in both English and Lithuanian languages, and hope is that local residents of the city will come to embrace it as much as the city’s visitors will.
The application is completely free to download from both iTunes and the Android Market.
