Kosovo Ready for Turkish Jazz Week

The Turkish Embassy in Prishtinë (Pristina, also spelled Prishtina) is organizing a second Turkish Jazz Week in the Kosovo capital, beginning April 2 to April 6, 2013. Events take place at multiple venues around the city, including the National Theatre, Oda Theatre and Sheshi21.

The programme of the festival includes, every evening from 8:30 pm to  10:00 pm:

  • Tuesday: Kerem Görsev Chamber Jazz (National Theatre)
  • Wednesday: Maden Öktem-Ersönmez (Oda Theatre)
  • Thursday: Alp Ersönmez “Cereyanli” feat Elif Çaglar (Oda Theatre)
  • Selen Gülün Quintet (Sheshi 21)
  • Saturday: Burhan Öcal & Istanbul Oriental Ensemble (National Theatre)

This is the second edition of the Turkish Jazz Week organized by the Embassy, first being held in late February, early March 2012. The first edition was attended by thousands of jazz fans from Prishtinë and the surrounding neighborhoods, and gathered together personalities from various fields, including musicians, politicians, ambassadors and artists.

In a statement to the media, the Turkish Embassy in Prishtinë explained that the festival is a natural cultural development, as both Turkey and Kosovo have perfect relations in every field.

“The Turkish Jazz Week, which was first organized last year, brought a new dimension to these relations and made the cultural heritage between the countries deeper. As the Turkish embassy, we are proud of bringing together Turkish and Kosovar people.”

The event should bring positive media attention on Kosovo, presenting this destination as a desirable cultural cradle, and encouraging tourists to visit more often in the near future.
