Tretyakov State Gallery Expansion on Schedule

Visitors to Moscow will have a stunning new attraction to see soon. According to news from Interfax construction of the museum complex of the Tretyakov State Gallery on the Kadashevskaya embankment is on schedule for completion by 2018.

2.9 billion rubles were allotted for the construction of the new complex

The museum complex, slated to increase the exhibition space of the Tretyakov Gallery to some 35.1 thousand square meters, will occupy a new modern 5 story building. Oleg Antosenko, Chairman of the Committee of State Construction Supervision of Moscow, told reporters of the progress of the project, and gave some particulars as to the new complex’s makeup. According to Antosenko, the complex will house exhibitions and storage of archival documents, workshops for the restoration of oil paintings, sculptures and graphics, as well as conference halls and offices. Visitors will be able to get from the existing building of the Tretyakov Gallery, to the new building complex via a pedestrian gallery.

Currently work is underway on the construction of monolithic structures of floors 2-4, of the above ground complex. The facility is being built at the expense of the Federal budget. The client is FGBY “all-Russian Museum Association of the State Tretyakov gallery”.
