This Week at the Karteros Beach Sports Center – Olympic Days 2022

All this month, sporting events at the new Karteros Beach Sports Center promise Crete locals and international travelers loads of competition and fun. Coming up from the 15th to the 17th of July, the festival Olympic Days 2022 will be a celebratory gathering of top athletes, coaches, sports officials, and beach sports enthusiasts.

Over three days, Crete’s top athletes will participate in the celebration, share their feats of athletic prowess and their dreams, and embrace the true spirit of sport at Karteros. The jamboree of celebration will include beach sports demonstrations, learning sessions, and more. 

Spyros Kapralos, President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, will be present. Also on hand for Olympic Days 2022 will be Giorgos Kapellakis, head of the Hellenic Paralympic Committee, and Dr. Antonis Avgerinou, who’s head of the Hellenic Red Cross.  

Some of the Olympians and Paralympians who will take part include: 

The events will culminate on Sunday 17/7 at 7.30 pm. with “Sports, from dream to achievement.” The theme of this celebration will be in line with the basic ecumenical Principle of Olympism, which is the preservation of human dignity in organized, peaceful societies.

All the participants will be indoctrinated in the magic that is beach sport by the coaches who train the world’s best athletes in this medium. The Olympic Days 2022 events are being organized by the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sport and with the unanimous support of volunteers from organizations like Το Χαμόγελο του Παιδιού – The Smile of the Child, Heraklion Gyms, the Sports Club of Persons with Disabilities “MEGALONISOS”, Heraklion Lions Club, the Rotary Clubs of Crete, SOS Children’s Villages Greece, Ρομποτική Εκπαιδευτική (Robotic and Science Academy), and many, many more.
