Running now through April 7, the Greek National Opera presents the wonderful operetta Halima, by Theophrastos Sakellaridis. With a restored score, and with its original orchestration, Halima is both a new production and reflective of the original master work.

Presented for the first time at the Montial summer theatre by the Kantioti-Ritsiardi company in autumn 1926, the story is somewhat derived from The Thousand and One Nights. In brief, a sly crook named Ali-Mousakas is involved in a plan by the beautiful Halima involving a prince Sakh-Rouman. What ensues is a delightful and imaginative comedic dance of characters.
Halima is conducted by Giorgos Petrou and Panagiotis Papadopoulos, and Directed by Petros Zoulias. The operetta begins at 8 PM at the Olympia Theatre with performances remaining on March 5, 14, 15, 31 and 7 April.
