New figures released by Travelmatch.co.uk show that holidays to the island of Tenerife are enjoying a resurgence in popularity with Brits this year, thanks to the superb climate and great hotels available to travelers.

Travelmatch, a relatively new internet travel portal based in the UK, recorded a huge spike in the number of tourists booking all-inclusive holidays to the Spanish resort, which lies just off the north coast of Africa. Indeed, their findings were further backed up by data released from the airport operator Aena, which showed that visitors to Tenerife had increased by more than 25% during the first six months of 2011.

The reason for Tenerife’s increasing popularity can be put down to its fantastic climate, and the range of excellent, cheap hotel rooms on offer. Accommodations such as the Vulcano Hotel allow British tourists the chance to relax in the sun at extremely affordable prices.

Additionally, the nearby island resorts of Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote have also proved to be more popular this year, say Travelmatch, providing further proof that the Canary Islands are now amongst the world’s most popular destinations for holidaymakers.

According to Travelmatch’s Alex Francis:

“Tenerife has always been a favorite with Brits, yet 2011 has seen the island become especially popular. The 25% increase in arrivals reported by Aena is hugely significant, and is matched by our own findings. Our expectations are that this trend will continue as people are already planning winter holidays and 2012 Tenerife holidays.”

Travelmatch, based in London, is a new player on the UK holiday scene, offering a unique service designed to help its customers find the holiday of their dreams. Users can match their requirements to a number of potential destinations searching for activities and events, exploring photos and reading reviews, as opposed to the traditional format of simply selecting a destination and budget offered by other portals.
