I admit I love going to museums, but it is often hard to pick all the museums in an area. And, let’s face it, not all of the museums are famous, though sometimes those little ones can be true treasures for a traveler or tourist. All those coming to Romania now have an app they can use to find out relevant information on all of the country’s 943 museums.
The app is called “Muzee si Colectii din Romania”, and it is available in Romanian and English for both Android and iOS. When opening it, users choose their desired language and then they can choose to see museums available in a given area near where they are. They can also use the search engine to see the available museums in various cities of the country, or based on the profile of the museums they want to visit (art, history, etc.)
The application was developed by the Association of Friends of the Romanian National History Museum in collaboration with the National Heritage Institute (National Database of Museums and Collections in Romania) and the ICOM (International Council of Museums) Romanian National Committee, through a project financed by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund – Cultural Projects 2013 programme.
The app is quite useful as it provides relevant information on each museum: address, opening hours, telephone, web site, description, and more than 5200 photographs from these museums. Now, I have to tell you that you might see 15 photos available for a museum, and some museums without any photo.
I gave it a try and found some museums I didn’t know (smaller) in my hometown so yes, I’ll definitely use it when wanting to visit something new in Romania.
