Drivers visiting Rethymno now have a new way to avoid the city’s busy streets and the often frustrating search for parking.
The Municipality of Rethymno, in partnership with KTEL, has launched a free park-and-ride service that allows motorists to leave their vehicles at the Fragakis parking area in Koumbes and travel to the city center aboard electric shuttle buses.
The initiative is designed to reduce traffic congestion while offering residents and visitors a convenient alternative to driving into the heart of the city.
Frequent Electric Shuttle Service
The dedicated shuttle will operate daily from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., with departures every 15 minutes.
The service is reserved exclusively for drivers using the Fragakis parking facility, allowing passengers to reach central Rethymno without worrying about parking availability during the busy summer season.
A Greener Way to Get Around
The new park-and-ride scheme forms part of the municipality’s broader strategy to promote sustainable urban mobility.
By encouraging visitors to park outside the city center and complete their journey on electric buses, officials hope to reduce traffic congestion, lower vehicle emissions, and create a more accessible and pedestrian-friendly urban environment.
