PORTA Hits Latvia November 1

Coming to Riga, Latvia next month, the PORTA music festival is the longest running world music festival in Latvia. The 12th annual event will offer guests to the city a wide variety of programs to enjoy including concerts by musicians from Georgia, France, Russia, and Great Britain, to name a few.

Festival PORTA is scheduled to begin on Wednesday November 1st and runs through Saturday December 1st, with scattered performances and events in between. Other countries represented include; Iceland, Madagascar and Latvia. There will also be documendaties showcaing the various world cultures, traditions, and of course music of each. Among the noted artists, the Georgian trio THE SHIN (video below) will perform. Guests can expect symphonic music, ethno-jazz, georgian polyphonic chants and passionate Caucasian dances.

Other performers such as Peter Nalitch and Friends (bottom video) from Russia, will shine the spotlight brightly on the talent that is available in Eastern Europe. Among the documentaries to be presented, Intangible Asset Number 82 from Emma Franz, promises to reveal improvisational and jazz tones. The film won Best Documentary at the Durban International Film Festival in South Africa.
