Children Have a Blast at the DinoPark Ostrava in Doubrava

The fabulous DinoPark Ostrava in Doubrava is about 30 minutes drive from Ostrava. The park is an attraction for children of all ages because it offers a whole array of hands-on activities. Larger-than-life dinosaurs line up the alleys outside, or wait patiently for little visitors indoors, in special play areas, beckoning with a promise of fun and unforgettable memories. The park is closed in the winter, but come the first days of spring, and children start flocking to Doubrava to see the dinos.

What’s great about this park is that children can play around as they see fit: here a little explorer touches the tooth of a mammoth, there a daring girl with ponytails stick out her head from the mouth of a triceratops – or a “Photosaurus.” Children are encouraged to touch the exhibits, to ask questions, and to learn. Outside, children can try to make it out of the DinoLabyrinth, which is filled with interesting “discoveries,” like rocks, tunnels, caves, and dino eggs hidden by wooden fences. There’s also a playground with climbing frames, swings, and seesaws; and a paleontology playground where children are encouraged to discover the skeleton of a prehistoric animal in the sand. Active children can race on the park’s 100-meter circuit aptly named the “Dino Race.” A 15 minute ride with the DinoExpress through the Mesozoic Era promises to be a fun-filled experience too.

Most exhibits at the DinoPark Ostrava are artificial replicas, with the exception of the real prehistoric artifacts exhibited in the “Journey to the Past of the Earth” pavilion, an exhibition realized in collaboration with the Museum of West Bohemia in Pilsen and the Head of Paleontology Department RNDr. Josef Pšenička, PhD.D.

The park also has a 3D cinema that screens a movie about dinosaurs. The film, including music and commentary, is a production made exclusively for the DinoPark Ostrava and is not available anywhere else. For more information, visit the official website of the park.
