Orbitz iPad App Goes Live

Yesterday Orbitz released their Orbitz Flights, Hotels, Cars app for iPad. The tool lets consumers search and book across the three major commodities of interest to most travelers. Planes, cars and hotels pretty much cover the gambit of services people need from an app, and Obrbiz’s “App Store Hall of Fame” iPhone experience has now been carried over onto the world’s favorite tablet.

Cars via the app - I like this aspect

Despite the fact the marketing people at Orbitz actually used terms like “seamlessly” in their promotion of this app, the award winning ease for which the iPhone app is so noted, does appear to translate well over the the tablet. The video at bottom from the developer explains many of the features. Chris Orton , President of Orbitz.com, offered this comment on the news:

“Nearly 30% of U.S. adults own a tablet which is up from 2% less than three years ago.1 During this unprecedented era of tablet growth, Orbitz is bringing the winning characteristics to iPad that consumers most value in travel apps – a fast, easy way to search and book travel and get great deals. Unlike competitive travel apps that send users on a wild ride across multiple booking sites, the new Orbitz iPad app is the only app that allows consumers to book flights, cars and hotels in a seamless, in-app experience.”

Here are the listed highlights of the all new Obritz iPad app:

  • Unrivaled speed and ease of use:  Search and book flights, hotels, and rental cars in a flash with a dual list/map view of hotels, the ability to compare details of multiple flights, rental cars, or hotels from a single screen, and powerful sorting & filtering capabilities. (Unrivaled, there’s another one of those PR terms)
  • Exclusive mobile-only deals:  Save up to 50% off hotels in hundreds of popular destinations worldwide with Orbitz Mobile Steals.
  • Convenient travel tools: View travel itineraries 24×7 even without an internet connection, add a trip itinerary to the iPad calendar, and get 1-tap access to information on flight delays and gate changes.
