Orbitz continues celebrating their 10 Year Anniversary with some exclusive deals for their customers. For the Summer, Orbitz is offering discounted International Flights, and International hotel deals.
Through June 17th, travelers who book flights outside the US, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean, will be eligible for 15% off selected International hotel bookings. Orbitz spokesperson, Marita Hudson Thomas, had this to say about the deals:
“In the Orbitz Summer Travel Survey 81% of consumers said they plan on taking a summer vacation but need to watch their budgets closely. Getting discounted rates on international airfares plus an additional 15% off an international hotel booking is valuable for consumers amidst rising travel costs and makes an international trip within reach this summer.”

Along with always discounted fares and deals, Orbitz also offers one of the best price guarantee benefits in the online booking business. If a customer books a flight or prepaid hotel, and another Orbitz client books the same for less, Orbitz refunds the difference in cash, immediately.

Mallorca On a Whim
Orbitz uses similar tactics to other booking sites, meaning there is a bit of “bait and switch” going on to capture the fly by visitor. However, I must say Orbitz is a good bit less mercenary about it than some others. Using their quick search to see about Mihaela and I taking off for Mallorca from nearby Luxembourg (not the cheapest place to fly out of), we found Obrbitz to be at least on a part price wise with most of the other booking sites.
The default filter for these searches is “value” – which can be fairly arbitrary on casual trip searching – but Orbitz top return is actually a super value. Situated just a few minutes from Palma, the Salles Hotel Marina Portals is a luxury 4 star affair just off the beach. The hotel sits in the middle of the Portals Nous, a fantastic little beach resort. Stunning views, an 18 hole golf course (it’s been a while for me), a spa, choice shopping nearby, and all the bars and fine restaurants you can handle, spells bargain at just over $800 per person for a 7 nights no less.
As a bit of a comparison, I looked to quick book the room and air separately from the Salles Hotel site, and from Cheap Tickets. The room as €501 plus change (current exchange $ 709 US), and the best quick deal from Luxair was $ 488 per person – even Kayak returned a € 303 deal for flight! So, as you can see, without undue searching Orbitz did play us pretty square. Mihaela and I could eat gourmet (maybe as below at the hotel?) for the difference, or rent jet skis the whole week maybe.
