Opera Festival Finland 2014

Olavinlinna castle (Olavinlinna) in the city of Savonlinna in the east of Finland, will be transformed into a theater stage this month. Performers from around the world will appear at the Opera Festival this year until August 2nd. Fans of classical music will be treated to a magical program featuring masterpieces of Finnish, German, Italian and French Opera over the last 200 years.

A new production, an Opera by Aulis of Sallinen “Kullervo”, which premiered in Los Angeles in 1992, will be seen for the first time in Finland. Also featured this year, “Carmen” by Georges Bizet, and staged Raimo Sirkia, will thrill enthusiasts for its excellent cast and creative flair.  Also, Giacomo Puccini’s Opera “Madama butterfly”, staged by Jari Hamalainen, is on tap for this year’s event.

Finally, the Welsh national Opera will bring to Olavinlinna large-scale choral Opera of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Nabucco” and an outstanding work of Giacomo Puccini’s Opera Manon Lescaut”, which will be first to sound at international festival in Savonlinna.
