Olympic Torch Passes Through Dumfries

The lovely Scottish town of Dumfries was this morning’s temporary host for the Olympic torch on its last leg through Scotland. Everyone in Dumfries along with tourists in town for the big event or just visiting got up fairly early in the morning to get down to the town center and see the torch passing by while also listening to the live bands performing for the event.

While the Olympic torch passage on its own only took a few moments, the live entertainment kept people out and about, smiling and singing along, although it was 8 in the morning and a bit chilly. The Dumfries Community Choir, Novantae and Finding Alebert put on an amazing show, so did the local entertainers that kept kids busy with juggling and other tricks.

The torch has been accompanies by sports figures, sponsor trucks and quite a few policemen, either riding bikes or driving their cars. In all honestly, the police bikers were one of the main attractions for the event, especially among the very young crowd who insisted to get photos next to them.

Nature was also rooting for the event, as the rain did not start till all the festivities and live entertainment were already finished. The crowd then slowly scattered, either going about their normal days, or just visiting more of Dumfries or enjoying great home made cakes and hot coffee or tea for breakfast.

Even if only briefly, the town got very lively and festive right in the middle of the week, bringing a little fun and inspiration to those who were there to experience it.
