Lounge Your Next Flight with Air New Zealand’s Skycouch

The next time you want to fly Air New Zealand, you might want to try its Economy Skycouch option, a new economy service it will soon introduce.  Skycouch squeezes three economy seats together, providing a couple or family with a sky couch, just as the name implies.

Pull out the Skycouch footrest, tuck away the armrests, and you are well on your way to lounging or even lying down for a nap on your journey.  It is so convenient for two, that some are preferring to call the service “cuddle class”, although the airline will most likely have limits to just how far the cuddling can go in public.

While some are wondering if this is an elaborate April Fools hoax, others are wondering why it took so long for an airline to come with something like this for average people with average budgets.  As proof that it really exists, Air New Zealand even has a YouTube video.

To order the new Skycouch service, you must do it online, that is unless a lovely passenger with a Skycouch to share happens to offer you a cuddle.  The service will begin April 2 on the Boeing 777-300 jets on NZ1/NZ2 Los Angeles-Auckland service, a trip that would make anyone want to stretch out a little.

Best of all, Skycouch prices are flexible and relative to the number of people you can squeeze into it.  The next time you are booking a flight from L.A. to New Zealand, you might be fortunate enough to sit on a sofa and enjoy a good movie, just like home.
