Lovran Chestnut Festival in Full Swing

Celebrating its 40th edition this year, Lovran‘s Marunada is a unique Autumn festival, revolving around the famous local sweet chestnuts, maruni. The event is an occasion for visitors to sample authentic local specialties prepared with these special delicacies, beyond traditional roasted chestnuts served with mead.

Most of local restaurants, cafes and patisseries participate, offering different dishes like, pastries, sweets and cakes made with maruns (chestnut cream, chestnut purée, chestnut ice cream, chestnut frappé, chestnut sorbet …), turkey breast stuffed with chestnuts, cutlet au gratin with chestnuts, rumpsteak with chestnut sauce, flaming crepes with chestnut cream and so on.

The festival will feature entertainment events too: bocce invitational tournament, the “Giro di Marunada” bicycle tournament, a mountaineering excursion, a hiking race “Učka Vertical”, training regatta, oldtimer cars meeting and fishing competition.

The event takes place October 11-27, 2013 in Lovran, Liganj and Dobreč. A full schedule is available here.
