Kayak Acquires Checkfelix, Austrian Travel Search Engine

Kayak has further enriched its European portfolio by adding Checkfelix to its list of acquisitions.  Checkfelix is an Austrian travel search engine that offers cheap flights, discounted hotels, and cheap rental cars.

In the deal, Kayak will acquire JaBo Software Vetrieb- und Entwicklung, better known as Checkfelix, but the Austrian company will continue to function as though it were a separate entity, with some management changes.

Checkfelix founder Hannes Jagerhofer will join on as a marketing consultant, and John-Lee Saez will continue to be in charge of operations but will now run the business from Zurich, Switzerland, Kayak’s European headquarters.

Kayak is a tech company founded by former Expedia, Travelocity, and Orbitz cofounders, and offers users the ability to view results from hundreds of travel sites at once.  Kayak is a travel meta search engine that aggregates content from the many travel sites around the world that provide information for booking flights, hotels, cruises, and rental cars, ultimately displaying the best deals for the consumer.

Kayak recently announced a partnership with Bing to include its search results and is now on a virtual backpacking trip through Europe, acquiring new travel website assets.
