This July: Royal Fair in Ploieşti

Ploieşti to host a "royal fair" in July.

Ploieşti, the county seat of Prahova County in Wallachia, Romania, will celebrate 420 years since it was historically mentioned in documents during the reign of Michael the Brave, Prince of Wallachia.

The local authorities have decided to mark the occasion with a “royal” fair. For three days between July 14 and 16, the city will celebrate with a medieval camp, exhibition of weapons, medieval music and fashion, equestrian demonstrations, tournaments, and other surprises for visitors of all ages. The festival will take place on the central Bulevardul Castanilor (Chestnut Boulevard) and will feature separate sections for each specific event.

The organizers hope to attract some of the most popular Romanian bands and performers, including Spitalul de Urgenţă, Taxi, Proconsul, Viţa de Vie, Bucovina, Vama, Zdob şi Zdub, and others, however, the schedule is not in as they are still waiting for these bands to express an interesting in performing by submitting a bid to participate.

Local residents, as well as visitors, are advised that Bulevardul Independenţei in the Ploieşti will be closed to vehicular traffic on Thursday, July 13, to allow preparations for the festival, as well as the staging of an area with pop-up cafes and terraces. The festival is organized in collaboration with Anticaffe New Experience and will attract both performers and craftsmen.

During the festivals, visitors can also see the Ploiești Philharmonic Orchestra—one of the top-rated Philharmonic orchestras in Romania; the Cultural Palace; the Clock Museum; the Art Museum of Ploiești; the Hagi Prodan Museum (Muzeul „Casa de târgoveț din secolele al XVIII-lea – al XIX-lea”); the Oil Museum; and other interesting attractions.
