JetBlue Enhance Website, Release iPhone App

Snazzy mobile apps and clean, polished websites are no longer the sole domain of travel search engines. Not now that JetBlue Airways has launched its brand new, native app on the iPhone, which allows users to search for flights and make bookings on the go.

JetBlue, a low-cost airline which flies to more than 65 destinations across the US, has simultaneously rolled out newly-enhanced web and mobile sites together with the app, packed with new features like flight recommendations based on user geo-location data and flight history, in an altogether cleaner, more streamlined interface.

The idea behind the new changes is that users will be afforded a more personalized experience, based on their location, preferences and behavior. JetBlue spent a lot of time assessing their customer’s needs before the updates, polling more than 15,000 passengers and employees, before tailoring the new design according to their findings. JetBlue said in a press release that the survey revealed that more than 95% of respondents would like to have some kind of ‘smart’ website that would be able to remember their active travel plans and customize its offerings accordingly.

A number of new updates are immediately apparent upon logging in to the new-look JetBlue site. Fares are displayed from the user’s most recently-used departure airports, and real-time flight updates automatically flash on screen as the departure time nears.

Another great new feature is the “Pick Me Up” option, which allows users to send their itineraries (along with directions to the airport) directly to whoever is picking them up.

iPhone users who regularly fly with JetBlue will find all of these new features at their fingertips. The app includes geo-location technology and real-time updates, as well as a new virtual postcard feature that allows users to keep friends and family up to date with their travel plans, via email or through social media such as Facebook. Smartphone users can also use the app to view information about flight menus, in-flight movie schedules and more besides.

Android users may be feeling slightly jealous now, but rest assured, JetBlue have said they intend to release the app on that platform later this year.
