Jazzinity Festival: Another Maribor 2012 Offering

Coming up August 13th through August 18th, the 13th annual Jazzinity Festival kicks off in Novo Mesto, Slovenia. Another of the wonderful events in keeping with Slovenia’s Maribor 2012 offerings, the jazz event is actually one of the country’s most diverse musical programs this year.

Beginning on a Monday, young musicians will start competitions for Jazzon, a unique presentation of their ensemble works. Competing for awards up to €1000 euro, the groups this year will be not only Slovenian, but Austrian and Croatian as well. But this is not all that is on tap for Jazzinity 2012, festival goers will also be treated to some funk, blues, and rock, not to mention Miroslav Vitous, who will perform an original ensemble for the very first time.

Maribor, Slovenia’s showpiece during the European Capital of Culture 2012 festivities, has put together a wonderful series of cultural events to partake of. This jazz fest is designed to not only show off the arts of Slovenia, but to build a strong cultural bridges between the country and her neighbors. Novo Mesto, as a venue, is a bit of an introduction into Slovenia’s cultural and economic strengths, plus a direct conduit for Croatians springing forth to enjoy the festivities. Located on the beautiful Krka River, the city is right across the border from Croatia, less than an hour from Zagreb.

The festival is a free event, so for the schedule and more info, we suggest you follow the prescribed links. Alternatively, interested jazz fans can email: jazzinty@jazzinzy.com.

Jazzinity will take place on the Dolenjska Museum Gardens grounds near the river. The video below shows a bit about that the Jazzinity workshops and festival are all about.
