Iceland Launches ‘Share the Secret’ Campaign #icelandsecret

Share the Secret

Aiming to lure more and more tourists to the country, Iceland just launched a new promotional campaign called ‘Share the Secret’. This is a new campaign by Inspired by Iceland, which aims to showcase local attractions and beautiful places known by locals. Local residents are encouraged to share their secrets, their special places, and all other gems that deserve to be seen by travelers from all over the world.

The campaign benefits from a dedicated website and social media accounts – Twitter, Facebook, Vimeo, tumblr – all presenting lovely sights and some off the beaten paths in Iceland and inviting travelers to adventure and to find out more about the country’s nature and culture.

“This year we want to encourage Icelanders and visitors alike to share with others just what makes the country so magical. We want to highlight the undiscovered side of Iceland and show that Iceland is a place of adventure and discovery and we are hoping that travellers will be inspired to come and seek out the secrets of others and leave with their own to share” said Inga Hlín Pálsdóttir, Director for Tourism & Creative Industries at Promote Iceland.

The locals always know places better than anyone else, and having these secrets revealed is like having a really great travel guide offered for free. Of course visitors have to respect these places and their nature, to leave them as beautiful as they found them.

“We want visitors to our country to become Icelanders, to ‘be Icelandic’. The ash cloud caused by the Eyjafjallajokull eruption last year made us think really hard about what coming to Iceland meant.

“We realised it is about the passion that our citizens have for our country and that they want to tell the world how beautiful it is and what an amazing experience it can be. Those thinking of visiting Iceland and wanting a real adventure will love what our people have to offer as they share their lives with them” explained Katrin Juliusdottir, Iceland’s Minister of Tourism.

The ‘Share the Secret’ campaign is quite interesting, and many people will enter the “game” to present the places they love the most in Iceland. Visitors and travelers from all over the world can follow the campaign on social media with the dedicated hashtag: #icelandsecret used for the campaign.

There are already a number of videos posted with secrets shared by various Icelanders, and their recommendations are indeed quite interesting and some not famous at all, so special gems are already being presented online, thus giving this campaign a great start.
