Passengers traveling by bus in Crete are advised to allow extra time for their journeys, as ongoing work on Crete’s Northern Road Axis, known as the VOAK, may delay KTEL services.
The Heraklion-Lasithi KTEL says travel times may vary depending on the location of the works, traffic conditions, and temporary road arrangements.
The warning is particularly important for passengers with flights, ferries, or other connections.
Allow Extra Time for Bus Rides
KTEL Heraklion-Lasithi recommends that passengers plan their journeys and leave additional time for possible delays.
This is especially important when a bus journey involves:
- a flight or another form of transport
- a connection with another bus service
- a ferry
- an important appointment
- any other commitment where arriving on time is essential
In these situations, passengers are advised to consider taking an earlier bus service to allow a reasonable margin for traffic delays.
VOAK Roadworks Are Never-Ending
According to KTEL Heraklion-Lasithi, the road works are expected to continue for an extended period. As a result, journey times may fluctuate depending on where works are taking place, how they are progressing, temporary traffic measures, and overall traffic levels.
The company says it is making every effort to maintain smooth, safe service, but delays may be affected by road conditions and temporary arrangements related to the VOAK works.
Passengers are therefore encouraged to plan rather than rely on the usual journey time when they have a tight connection.
If you’re traveling by KTEL in Crete and need to catch a plane, ferry or another bus, don’t cut it close. Take an earlier service and give yourself some breathing room.
The VOAK (also spelled as BOAK) works are expected to continue for some time, so journey times may not always be predictable.
