Giortes Rokkas 2019 Kicks Off Tonight With Opening Ceremonies

The opening ceremonies of the 7th edition of the Giortes Rokkas Festival take place tonight in Rokka Square outside Kissamos beginning at 21:00. Visitors this year will travel the village path suited to all ages. This unique festival runs from August 1st through August 15th featuring a wide variety of special cultural events.

The Giortes Rokkas 2019 opening will start late in the afternoon at Rokka Square. Guests will be able to stroll around Rokka and Kera in a special thematic interactive experience created and supervised by the artist, Georgina Drakouli-Solo. With the use of individual sound devices, the spectators will perform a mystagogical walk full of sounds and light just before the musical concert of Foivos Delivorias and his company.

Begun back in 2013, the Giortes Rokkas 2019 will transport guests through the nearby villages to hear the stories, listen to the songs, and to catch a whisper of the mystique this part of Crete island holds. This year the focus of Giortes Rokkas will lean more toward education and an introduction to the arts.

Set to begin under the full August moon, Giortes Rokkas will entail not only music, theater, new technologies, and visual arts, but educational workshops supported by local collectivities, travel agents, other Greek cities, and internationally renowned artists, boosting the extraversion of the events, thus creating a network of communication and collaborations.

The philosophy behind this event is to bring people together to embrace the raw beauty of the local community via the highest expression of artforms and culture. As in past years, the Giortes Rokkas 2019 will embrace a dynamic program of events in the villages of this part of Chania Prefecture and at the modern stage for music, theatre, and other forms of art.

Rokka and Kera villages are located in the northwest of the Prefecture of Chania, in the Municipality of Kissamos, 12 km from Kissamos, 39 km from Chania and 55 km from Chania airport. Following the E65 National Road from Chania to Kissamos, and turning to the Nopigia to Kera – Rokka hub, you will not have difficulty finding us. Rokka’s Square is located in the center of the village, right next to the main street from which you will come.

Every summer, GiortesRokkas, tell a remarkable story. The story of a place that is craving life and development, and expresses it through art in all of its different forms, taking us on a journey of August scented events that once you experience, you can never forget.
