Southern Crete Remains a Key Maritime Route

The incident occurred in the waters east of Gavdos, an area where maritime traffic and migration movements have brought increased attention to the southern coast of Crete.

For visitors traveling to Gavdos or the southern coast, the incident is a reminder that these waters are also an active maritime environment, used by commercial, passenger, fishing, coast guard and international vessels.

Authorities have not released further information about the man’s identity or the circumstances surrounding his death.
