Travel Light with FlyMy.co.uk Baggage Couriers

Good news for all those frequent flyers who are sick of kicking their heels, wasting time at the airport with nothing to do. Hours of endlessly waiting at the baggage carousel, or standing in line at the check-in counter could soon be a thing of the past, thanks to a great new idea from UK-based travel start-up FlyMy.co.uk.

FlyMy.co.uk can save you the hassle and take your luggage wherever it is you're going

Colin Gilmour, who established FlyMy, is hoping to find a market for his new baggage courier service, which will pick up air passenger’s luggage from their homes and deliver it directly to their destination, saving them the trouble of hauling across thousands of miles themselves.

“I just had a light bulb moment,” explain Gilmour, who has a background in logistics and has experienced difficulties with overweight baggage on budget carrier flights before.

FlyMy has teamed up with DHL to do the leg work, and the door-to-door service is backed by full tracking and will be offered at negotiable rates to both traditional travel agents and online travel agents, reports Travolution. Gilmour plans to make the service, which will take around 2-3 days to deliver, available to more than 270 destinations worldwide, with prices beginning at just £39.98 for short haul flights.

Gilmour admits that it might be difficult to convince travelers to part with their luggage at first, but points to some definite advantages that he hopes can sway passenger’s thinking. First, says Gilmour, passengers will be able to get through the airport much faster as they won’t have anything to check in or wait for once they arrive at their destination. FlyMy also offers a greater weight allowance than most airlines, something that may appeal to golfers and skiers who are flying abroad.

Another reason to think that the baggage courier idea may take off is that, according to Gilmour, many tourists are dissatisfied with airlines and their expensive baggage charges.

Gilmour is hopeful that high-volume OTAs in particular will help him to establish his service. Profit margins for travel agents are generally small, something that Gilmour believes will make his service appeal as an additional revenue stream.
