Pan-Cretan General Assembly Called by Heraklion Livestock Association

The Heraklion Livestock Association calls a pan-Cretan assembly on Nov 26 as farmers and breeders prepare collective decisions on upcoming mobilizations

Farmers and breeders are preparing coordinated decisions on upcoming mobilizations.

The Heraklion Livestock Association has issued a formal call for a pan-Cretan general assembly, inviting livestock farmers and all professionals in the primary sector across the island to determine the timing and form of their subsequent mobilizations.

The assembly will take place on Wednesday, November 26, at 8:00 p.m., at the Heraklion Union facilities.

According to the Association, widespread participation is essential, as important decisions about the sector’s future actions will be made collectively.

Official Announcement

The Association’s call states:

“To all livestock farmers and the entire primary sector of the Prefecture of Heraklion and Crete.

On Wednesday, 26.11.25, we are holding a Pan-Cretan General Assembly at the Heraklion Union, at 8:00 p.m.

We are waiting for you all to decide what we will do, when, and what form the general uprising will take.

Do not let anyone be absent.

We will not allow rural areas to collapse, nor will we allow our children to abandon the countryside.

This is a matter of national importance – the countdown to the dismantling of the primary sector has begun.

All together, no one alone.”

National Mobilization Plans Already Underway

The meeting in Crete follows developments on the mainland. After a nationwide gathering of farmers and livestock breeders on Sunday in Nikaia, Larissa, representatives decided that:

  • The first blockades will be set up from November 30
  • Blockades will continue until December 5, at locations chosen by the participating associations
  • Thessalian farmers aim to form a unified blockade on the Athens–Thessaloniki highway
  • Proposals include expanding mobilizations nationwide during the same period
  • Additional actions may take place on roads, at ports, or through other coordinated means

The meeting was convened by the Panhellenic Coordinating Committee of the Blocs at the Cultural Center of Nikaia in the Municipality of Kileler.

Concerns of Farmers and Livestock Breeders

Farmers across Greece, along with livestock breeders, are pressing for:

  • Immediate government support for the primary sector
  • Faster measures against animal diseases, such as smallpox
  • Stronger protections for rural communities
  • Long-term planning to prevent the gradual decline of agriculture and livestock production

Crete’s professionals are expected to decide their stance and actions during the upcoming general assembly.
