For the first time in Thailand, an Italian restaurant has earned a Michelin star — and the distinction belongs to Cannubi by Umberto Bombana, located inside the reimagined Dusit Thani Bangkok.

The accolade, awarded in The Michelin Guide Thailand 2026, marks a milestone not only for Italian cuisine in the country but also for Bangkok’s rapidly evolving fine-dining scene. Cannubi is curated by Chef Umberto Bombana, one of the most respected figures in contemporary Italian gastronomy, best known for 8½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana in Hong Kong — the only Italian restaurant outside Italy to hold three Michelin stars.

Italian Precision, Bangkok Execution

While Bombana’s vision shapes the restaurant, the day-to-day expression of that philosophy in Bangkok is led by Executive Italian Chef Andrea Susto, a longtime protégé of Bombana. Together, they present a cuisine grounded in classical Italian technique, guided by seasonality, terroir, and uncompromising ingredient quality.

Menus range from à la carte and tasting experiences to a set lunch, with a dedicated white truffle menu that nods to Bombana’s long-standing reputation as The King of White Truffles. A wine cellar of more than 350 labels, selected for heritage and character rather than trend, completes the experience.

A Dining Room Shaped by Heritage

Cannubi’s setting is as considered as its food. Situated on the lobby level of the newly reopened Dusit Thani Bangkok, the two-level restaurant overlooks the hotel’s striking nine-storey waterfall. Inside, the main dining room is defined by golden teakwood panels, carefully preserved and restored from the original Benjarong restaurant of the historic Dusit Thani.

The result is a space that feels intimate despite its scale — warm, architectural, and distinctly Thai in its material language, without distracting from the kitchen’s Italian soul. Private dining rooms for six and twelve guests complete the layout.

Recognition and a Larger Moment for Dusit Thani

“To be recognised as the first Italian restaurant in Thailand to receive a Michelin Star is a tremendous honour,” Bombana said, calling Cannubi a deeply personal project built on integrity, passion, and respect for exceptional ingredients. He also credited Chef Susto and the wider team for bringing that vision to life in Bangkok.

The award adds to a standout year for Dusit Thani Bangkok, which reopened in September 2024 and has since received one Michelin Key and a place among the world’s top 100 hotels, ranking #60 on the extended list of The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2025. Alongside Cannubi, the hotel’s dining portfolio includes Pavilion, Dusit Gourmet, 1970 Bar, and the rooftop Spire Rooftop Bar, positioning the property as one of Bangkok’s most compelling new culinary destinations.

Cannubi by Umberto Bombana is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday to Sunday.
