Bulgaria’s Legendary Gabrovo April and Always Fools

Bulgaria’s city of Gabrovo, also known as the “laughter capital” of the country, celebrates April Fool’s Day today. Situated to the North and East of Sofia, this town is famous for the populace’s strange sense of humor.

Showing humility to the extreme, the citizens of Gabrovo have no illusions about directing their fun poking back onto themselves. The so called House of Humor is located here, a museum dedicated to nothing else but funny business. Today all entry is free marking the 41st anniversary of the museum’s opening.

As for the legendary people of Gabrovo, their infamous stinginess is told in the tale of stopping all clocks during sleep hours to save on the wear and tear of internal clock components, and other nefarious stories of miser-ism. To learn more about these fascinatingly funny people readers should visit the Museum House of Humor and Satire here. Of particularly macabre humor is the legend of how citizens cut off the tails of their cats (main image). Meeee – Owwww – ey, a whole town full of quick witted funny people.
