Bulgaria Ranks in the Top Winter Destinations in Europe

Bulgaria is one of the European countries that have something to offer in every season. Famous for its beaches in Summer, Bulgaria lures tourists during winter with its accessible ski packages in various destinations. According to the Deputy Minister of Economy in charge of Tourism, Branimir Botev, the country ranks four in Europe in terms of winter tourism if the rate of development is taken in consideration, as Novinite.com mentions.

Official data shows a significant increase in the number of tourists coming to the country in the winter. Over 1 million tourists visited the country last winter, an increase of 8.2%, and there is hope that the number of tourists coming to Bulgaria for the 2013-2014 season will be significantly higher.

An increase of 5.4% was registered for this summer (June – August 2013), compared to the previous year. During these months 3.5 million tourists visited Bulgaria, with most people coming from relatively close countries such as Russia, Germany, Romania, Greece, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom.

“British tourists appreciate the opportunities for alternative tourism offered in Bulgaria, combined with good food and quality wine. Our country is an attractive year-round destination. During the summer of 2013 Bulgaria has been visited by over 140 000 British tourists,” said Botev.

As Bulgaria tries to lure tourists year round, since it managed to already make famous several destinations and festivals, and due to the fact that the country seems to focus on being an affordable European destination (perhaps the cheapest one in some regards) it is no wonder that the number of visitors increased and that it is expected to see this tendency last.
