British Tourist Spending in Greece Way Up in 2019

According to data from the Bank of Greece, British tourist spending was up 31.9 percent last year.

In contrast, the Germans continue are still the biggest source of tourism revenues for Greece, but their spending actually declined in decline in 2019 compared to 2018.

Revenues from French tourists also showed remarkable growth from the bank data, amounting to 14.5 percent year-on-year, to reach €1.092 billion euros.

Interestingly, it appears that Greece’s efforts to promote off-season tourism have been successful. Another report from Bank of Greece from June of last year showed a British tourist spend of €32 million Euros from January to March (plus 60.8%), French €12 million (plus 40.7%).

Finally, the Russians spent €6 million Euros in Greece, which is 69.8% more than during the same period last year. Outside the EU traveler expenditures were up 14.2 percent, with Russians spending 27.3 percent more last year.
