Austrian’s Flock to Romania in 2012

An interesting travel statistic for the Romanian tourism sector for 2012. It turns out some 218,000 Austrians visited Romania last year, a 14% increase over the previous numbers. he Austrian travelers also spent upwards of €52 million in the country, this according to Romania Insider.

The National Austrian Bank has also reported that Austrians spent some €44 million in the first third quarters of 2012 in Romania, a figure up almost 16% over the same period the previous year. The trend suggests that 2013 could see even more increases, the Romanian government has promoted the country in Austria more in early 2013 than in previous years. As for what attraction Austrians seem most interested in, a report from Black Sea News speaks of nature trips, urban destinations, and Danube Delta cruises.

Another factor in Romania’s trending popularity with Austrians is the fact Romania was partners with Austria at “Ferien Messe 2013,” the most important tourism fair in Vienna, which took place early in the year.
