Armenia’s Eurovision 2013 Dark Angel – Tony Iommi

Eurovision 2013 in Malmo may end up being the most talent filled competition in the history of the contest. And all along the trip to the finals there we run across fascinating stories, none more fascinating than that of Armenian contenders Gor Sujyan & his Dorians. Now a bit from Yahoo! News makes things even more interesting a Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi comes into view.

According to the story, those interesting lyrics and that guitar rift probably sound a tad familiar (at least artistically speaking) for good reason. Iommi, who has been involved in charitable work in Armenia since that country was violently shaken by an earthquake which killed tens of thousands and rendered half a million people homeless. According to the story, the Dorians’ manager asked Iommi to write the lyrics in English, and he graciously accepted.

For a bit of bio on Iommi, his body of work is branded into the chromosomes of 70’s rock fans. Not only did Iommi help found Black Sabbath, he also played the iconic Jethro Tull back when. Labeled one of the top 25 rock guitarists of all time by Rolling Stone, the English songwriter-guitarist was and is there in the thick of things. Of late Iommi beat lymphoma, and legendary rockers all seem to have punched out drug use and excess, you know. This latest news of him though, it’s most fascinating – just plain good in my book.

So, that wonderful voice and those gripping lyrics blended together for Armenia’s shot at world musical fame, a rock legend helped a little bit along the way. How’s that for a back story? Here’s “Lonely Planet” one more time, listen up a little louder, huh?
