Thalassotherapy Squared
The reason for our visit to Aeon Candia Maris last week is that for some years now my wife Mihaela Lica Butler has wanted to see about becoming a member. We learned about Candia Maris and the spa several years ago when my best friend Minas Liapakis involved me in storytelling about a Russia-Crete initiative in hospitality. So, we finally made it to investigate these state-of-the-art facilities for our own enjoyment. From the onset, Aeon Candia Maris representatives Marina, Aristotle, and Dionysia helped us understand feature ONE of any professional hospitality venture – your people are your value. Certainly, everyone at this wonderful resort has, so far, exemplified this dogma.
At the heart of this magnificent spa’s endless list of experiences are the amazing thalassotherapy and beauty treatments. The center has 2 pools, but the seawater pool fitted for thalassotherapy is clearly the superstar of the offering. Guests and members of the spa can enjoy a jacuzzi, a solarium, a sauna, and a steam room, and 24 treatment rooms, not to mention the best-outfitted gym space I’ve seen in 20 years.
There is also a medical center where members and guests can get advice from experts, personalized therapies and diets, as well as personal programs of recovery and fitness specially designed for the individual. There’s also a Rehabilitation Institute Spine with Ergo fit and Power Plate fitness equipment. Seriously, Arnold Swarzenegger himself would be impressed with the free weights and a menagerie of the latest fitness machines. I could not begin to list, really.
Aeon Spa is Just Cosmic
Prior to this visit we had been to Aeon Spa on a couple of other occasions when we were reporting on Russian cosmonauts were recuperating from time on the International Space Station (ISS) at the spa. Crete was chosen by Roscosmos and the cosmonauts’ doctors as the perfect place to reboot after lengthy missions in space. And the Aegeo Spas contingents at several Crete locations helped with the programs. Aeon Spa proved to be the perfect place for re-acclimatizing, relaxation, detoxification, rejuvenation, cleansing, and general wellness. But, last week we were at the spa to inquire about our own health and wellbeing, and what the spa could offer.
The center also has a jacuzzi, a solarium, a sauna, and a steam room, and 24 treatment rooms. There is also a medical center where members and guests can get advice from experts, personalized therapies and diets, as well as personal programs of recovery and fitness specially designed for the individual. There’s also a Rehabilitation Institute Spine with Ergo fit and Power Plate fitness equipment.
Aeon Candia Maris Spa offers more than 200 different services including massage, peeling, fomentation, electro, hydrotherapy, beauty treatments, hair removal, and Alopecia areata. The spa makes use of the finest products and treatments available from names like Phytomer, Academie and Germain de Capuccini. There’s also a boutique for purchasing local and world-renowned beauty and self-care products like the local seaweed, grapes, and the world’s finest olive oil products. Wait, though, that’s not all.
Mr. Olympia Would Approve
While Mihaela was signing up for spa membership with Aeon Candia Maris superstars Marina, and Dionysia, Aeon Candia Maris trainer Aristotle took me on a tour of their amazing fitness center and the outdoor facilities. As it turns out, spa users have access to all the offerings of the fabulous Candia Maris resort, as well. The resort has 4 outdoor pools, each with its own poolside bar, waterslides, water sports, tennis, beach volleyball, cycling, archery, shuffleboard, and “you name it.”
The long and short of Aeon Candia Maris is this. You may be able to find a wellness retreat somewhere in Europe with a more complete offering, but somehow I doubt this. And you might run into a facility up in the high Tatras or on Lake Bled with staff as friendly, though I don’t see how. But I am 100% sure you cannot find “everything” at any one location. Certainly not every day of the week. So, all that’s left is to come to Crete and get your personalized slive of a perfect paradise.
