Tokyo Woos Russian Travelers to Japan

This week Moscow hotel “Radisson Slavyanskaya” held an event for the travel agencies and the media, and organized a new office for the promotion of tourism in Tokyo, for Russia under the motto “In Tokyo. A Meeting of Old and New.” Future plans for the promotion of the Prefecture of Tokyo were also announced.

News from the Moscow Office for the promotion of tourism Tokyo included statements from Alexander Kuzin and his Japanese colleagues discussed this new presence in Russia, and the potential for attracting Russian’s to Japan.  Since the simplification of the visa regime for Russians, which entered into force exactly two years ago, Japan was visited by 80 thousand Russians in 2017 alone.

According to the figures provided, last year Japan welcomed 28.7 million foreign visitors overall. This was facilitated by the simplification of visa procedures from China and Russia, as well as the increase in flights by budget airlines from Asia and visits of ocean liners in the Japanese ports. The most active growth in the past year, in addition to Russia, showed South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Hong Kong and China.

At a press conference, it was announced that by 2020 Japan plans to accept 40 million foreign tourists and 25 million of them are expected to visit the country’s capital — Tokyo. Also in the presentation, Tokyo was described as a “city that harmoniously combines tradition and modern innovation, beautiful nature and architecture, green gardens and a unique gastronomy.” For those unfamiliar, Tokyo has 150 thousand restaurants, 156 of which have Michelin stars. The city has to legendary ancient traditions and cultural monuments, a vast varitey of museums and galleries, aquariums, zoos, Botanical gardens and much more.

Tokyo is also famous for great hotel rooms at businesshotels, city hotels, luxury hotels,  traditional hotels Ryokan. Also important is the fact that the Economist twice were officially awarded to Tokyo by the title of “safe city”.

Journalists reminded that in November 2013, the Committee IOC has announced that Tokyo will host the summer Olympic and Paralympic games in 2020. During the conversation with the guests of the meeting, representatives of the Tokyo Metropolitan government said that the construction of the new Olympic stadium has already begun, and it will be erected on the site of the former stadium that hosted the XVIII Olympic games 1964.
