Airlines Forced to Reschedule Greece Flights Over Strikes

The most recent strike of public transport employees, as well as sailors and doctors, has caused airlines like Russia’s Aeroflot to reschedule or even cancel flights. And another strike of subway workers, bus drivers, tram and trolleybuses, is expected today.

The air traffic controller strike caused rescheduling of at least a dozen flights. Aeroflot announced; “In connection with the strike of the ATC personnel in Greece “Aeroflot” makes changes to the scheduled January 15, 2018. Changed the departure time of the flight SU2110/2111 Sheremetyevo – Athens – Sheremetyevo, time schedules — 09.05/14.20, estimated time of departure — 12.25/ 17.40″. Forty-eight flights across Aegean Air and Olympic Air domestic and international routes have had to adjust, and other Greece flights seem certain to be affected as well.

The cause of these strikes has to do with Greece’s Parliament and the upcoming vote on the package of laws with the new measures agreed upon with creditors from the EU and the IMF in the framework of the third evaluation of the implementation of the reform program. The bill pending approval in parliament on Monday will also reduce family benefits and introduce a new process for foreclosures on overdue loans.

Today, MPs will vote to endorse or nix  a “multi-bill” of emergency reforms that includes contentious legislation to limit industrial action. Workers have reacted with a barrage of strikes, with more work stoppages and walkouts promised.
