Wyndham’s current hotels include the Ramada Plaza and Wyndham Grand, along with a dozen or so others. Opening another 34 or more under the Howard Johnson brand is apparently a big part of the company’s plans for expansion. Unique Global, a major real estate firm, is reportedly in on this aspect of the move. Wyndham Hotel Group Managing Director Frank Trampert also offered this:
“Across Asia Pacific and after China, India is our second largest market with 16 open hotels and 22 under development. Considering the fast growing domestic travel market as well as the increasing inbound travel, the destination is attractive for the hospitality sector.”
Other brands Wyndham operates in India include; Ramada, Days Inn, Ramada Encore, Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham and Dream. The addition of Howard Johnson to the mix seems logical given that brand’s decades long tradition of upscale value and economy. Wyndham runs more than 450 HoJo hotels in 13 countries, so India only makes sense where the branding of any new expansion goes. Overall Wyndham operates over 7200 hotels worldwide.
Wyndham’s news also carries over into their expansion plans in Indonesia, where four hotels will open in the immediate future. Hotel scheduled to open in India in the short to mid term include:
- Days Jodhpur Chopasni
- Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Amritsar GT Road
- Howard Johnson Bhubaneshwar Bomikhal
- Howard Johnson Hyderabad Banjara Hills
- Howard Johnson Tirupati Settipalli
- Howard Johnson Lucknow Gomti Nagar
- Howard Johnson Mumbai Andheri
- Howard Johnson Shirdi Nimgaon
- Ramada Jamshedpur Bistupur
- Ramada Encore Kolkata New Town
- Ramada Trivandrum Palayam
The Indonesia hotels announced are; Howard Johnson Bali Benoa, Howard Johnson Surabaya East, Howard Johnson Makassar Central, and the Ramada Bali Lake Buyan.

I think India is going to be one of the word's faster growing tourism markets, and as a traveler myself the demand for budget, economy and high end hotels mainly in the secondary and tertiary cities in India is going to skyrocket especially with the growth in infrastructures in these areas.
