Wizz Air Strengthens Its Markets

After a number of strategic additions to its Eastern European operating bases last year, Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air announced a number of new flights and new operating bases for 2011. The following new routes and bases demonstrate Wizz Air’s commitment to better customer service, and reflect a need for low cost air transportation in the area, where the Hungarian company is one of the most active carriers.

The European Low Fares Airline Association – where Wizz Air is a member alongside easyJet, Flybe, Jet2.com, Norwegian, Ryanair, SverigeFlyg, transavia.com, and Vueling – said its nine member airlines reported a 6.1% year-over-year increase in passenger numbers for 2010 to 172.4 million and a 0.3% increase in average seat load factor to 82.3%.

Beginning March 26, 2011, Wizz Air will launch a new flight connecting Bucharest to Malaga in Spain – the third seasonal destination added by Wizz Air, after Allicante, with flights from Bucharest and Cluj – Napoca, and Palma de Mallorca, operated from Cluj – Napoca.

The company is launching its 13th operating base in Belgrade (Serbia), in April 2011, deploying a new Airbus A320 aircraft. With this, Wizz Air will launch five new routes from Belgrade to Rome, Malmo, Stockholm-Skvasta, Eindhoven and Munich-Memmingen.

In addition, Wizz Air announced the launch of a new route from Skopje to London-Luton, that will operate three times per week from 20 June 2011.
