The Wheel Dance of Brod in Slavonski Brod begun this May 28th, and will last till June 12, 2011 – a celebration of traditions, and a way of life for the people of this area. Slavonski Brod is the sixth largest city in Croatia, a stunning destination on the Sava river, considered one of the most beautiful cities in the country. For those who visit it, the beauty of the place, and the traditions, go together in perfect harmony, and provide for a memorable experience.
Established in 1963, the Wheel Dance of Brod (Brodsko kolo) is the oldest folk festival in Croatia. The festival features a variety of dance performances, presented by the local folklore ensemble. Many people join in, dressed in national costumes, celebrating alongside professional dancers. For tourists, this is the perfect occasion to understand the culture of the Brod-Posavina County, and to see a number of folkloric art exhibitions, and enjoy other cultural programmes especially designed to accompany the event.

This authentic folklore festival is everything but boring. If you are not into dancing, there are other things to enjoy, including horse team shows, equestrian hurdle and two-horse team competitions. As any other festival in Croatia, this too will be accompanied by authentic cuisine – genuine flavors that add to genuine traditions.
The festival features religious songs as well, performances of Croatian tambourine, a folk costumes parade, children folklore and much more. One of the most attractive events is the Miss Croatia in a Folk Costume pageant.
