Hotel Spotlight: W Hotel Barcelona

Situated amid what once was fishing headquarters Barcelona, the W Hotel has been the subject of many a review. Regardless of the place’s regal or radical reputation, the locale and architecture of the hotel make it world class. For the best “out-of-the-way” beach side experience in town, W Barcelona is a bit of a wonder.

For those unfamiliar with Barcelona, Barceloneta is the oldest part of the city, the historic hub of this ancient playground. From the pristine Barceloneta Beach to Palau de la Música Catalana (UNESCO) and many other famous attractions, by all accounts the “W” is one of the top hotels in this part of Spain. Distinguishable by its sail-like architectural profile, W Barcelona is also the brand’s most noted European offering.

Catalan architect Ricardo Bofill, designed one of Barcelona’s most recognizable pieces of modernity, and such attributes as the WET® pool (image below) and the 26th-floor Eclipse bar (immediately above) symbolize the trendy avant-garde spirit of the city. Maybe the most charming thing about the W Hotel Barcelona is the diversity of atmosphere any guest can embrace.

You see, the W’s hospitality includes 5 star just about everything, but down on the streets of Barceloneta the party enthusiast can slum it and soak up as much of the city’s soul as needed.

Living side-by-side in this part of town, luxury goes hand in hand with a two euro glass of wine – cheap good times too, give way to touristic traps where the Sangria costs like gold too. Daytime attractions nearby continue with; L’Aquarium, Parc de la Ciutadella (bottom), Zoo-Barcelona, and the Olympic Port. But the real pleasure of W Hotel is the scenery and service inside.

Consider some more W Hotel inside attractions like; the Bliss spa, the Living Room-Lobby, and their Whatever-Whenever Service, and there’s not many more attractive places nor hospitable hospitality on the coast of Spain. Forget about rumors of nudists cramming the private beaches, Barcelona is still a place everyone should visit once, and then be welcomed again and again.

The W Hotel is a near perfect landmark to illustrate not only the modern face of the city, but that sometimes cutting humor residents are famous for. By way of revelation here, some critics of the hotel call it the city’s “bulbous beer belly”, owing to the billowing sail profile. Speaking of full bellies. Guests and visitors will also want to partake of master chef Carles Abellán’s cuisine at his signature restaurant Bravo, among the many other culinary wonders W affords.

Finally, the real marvel in any hotel experience begins and ends in the room or suite. Face it, where you lay your head down, take that breather from all day sightseeing or jet-skiing, your room above it all awaits. As you can see in the image below, the view from the W Hotel can be mystifying. “Wonderful Rooms,” as in the image below, are nothing less than their name suggests. A view like the one you see is obtainable from €246 per night. And if you just won the lottery, or you last name is Onassis…

The W Hotel is not only an eclectic mix of luxury and chill coolness, but a shiny beacon of resplendence amid the hustle and bustle that is Barcelona. Catalonia, fantastic street musicians, flamenco to die for, Spain on the half shell, the city that surrounds W Hotel is a bit like the hotel itself. Full sail headed out to sea, or a full belly of fun and adventure – wither way this hotel is a profile you won’t soon forget.

This place is fit for the weekend getaway or Valentine’s escape – or as suggested, a home away from home for the well heeled billionaire. We leave you with the Extreme WOW Suite that goes for just under €11000 euro per night. WOW is right.
