Vrbnik Shows Off Her Vintners

Vrbnik, or Vörbnick, as Germans like to call her, is a beautiful Croatian village on the east coast of the island of Krk. Not as popular with tourists as other Croatian destinations, Vrbnik is still noteworthy, for its Medieval splendor, traditions and… wine. This August 24 to 25, the village shows off her vintners, in a local festival known as Island wine days Krk – Vrbnik 2012.

A proud tradition in Vrbnik, the wine-making revolves around Zlahtina, a white grape, possibly of Swiss origin (Chasselas). The vineyards stretch all over the village, and around, offering some of the most picturesque landscapes of the island of Krk.

Vrbnik’s wine festival this year lasts only two days, but two days full of entertainment. Aside the traditional wine tasting events and sales-exhibition of local products, visitors will also enjoy a photo exhibition commemorating Dragutin Olvitz, folk concerts, an exhibition of viticultural and winemaking equipment, and lectures. More information about the event, on Vrbnik’s official website, or via Croatia.hr.

If you plan to attend the festival, you can book your stay at Hotel Argentum, or find alternative accommodation in the surrounding villages of Baska, Tribalj and Malinska.
