Barcelona Hosts 45th Voll-Damm International Jazz Festival

The 45th edition of the Voll-Damm International Jazz Festival of Barcelona will start on October 19th and last until December 1st. The organizers already announced some of the guests of this year’s edition of the festival.

Chucho Valdes and his Afro-Cuban Messengers will return to Barcelona to perform at Palau de la Musica on October 30th. Tindersticks will have a show on October 31st, at BARTS, and this year’s edition of the Voll-Damm International Jazz Festival will also include concerts of the group drummer Jack DeJohnette, with saxophonist and clarinetist Don Byron special guest on November 15th, the new project Israeli bassist Avishai Cohen on November 22nd, ACS (Geri Allen, Terri Lyne Carrington and Esperanza Spalding) will have a concert at the Palau on November 14th and many more.

Another piece of resistance of this festival is a special performance with the pianist Alfredo Rodriguez who will act as soloist and the Vallès Symphony Orchestra, led by its owner, Ruben Gimeno, in a very special evening marks the first collaboration of the orchestra with the festival. This concert will be dedicated to the work of George Gershwin as well as works of works of Frank Zappa and even a composition of the pianist.

Various venues will be hosting the concerts included in the festival, such as Palau de la Música Catalana, Harlem Jazz Club, Jamboree, each with a specific style and for a specific public.

Locals and tourists alike will be able to select the concerts and the venues that suit the best their tastes, and you can already buy tickets for the shows you want to watch.

Given that the festival will last for a while and that there are various clubs and venues participating in the event, you might consider mixing this festival with a visit through the city, famous especially for the work of Gaudi. Barcelona is indeed a Spanish city that has a lot to offer to anyone visiting it and if you love jazz music, then this is a perfect period to be in the city!
