Chateau St. Havel Prague traces its history back to a 1273 mention in the register of the Vyšehrad priory, however, by 1620, the estate was deserted. The castle then served as spiritual retreat to the St. Havel Church for a short time, to be revived in 1627 by the Carmelite Knights Order, which used it as their summer retreat and built a new chapel dedicated to St. Havel on the property. However, the monastery was abolished by Emperor Josef IIs in 1786 and in 1795 the castle and its lands were purchased by Jan Gever of Ehrenberg who enriched the property with stables, a barn, and farmhouses. The building, as it stands today, was only finished during 1840-1860 when it was in the ownership of Viennese lawyer Baron Schlosser, who added the new right wing with a hall. Following several renovations and landscaping projects, the castle was finally converted into a luxury hotel that opened in 2006.
