Turkey’s First Street Art Graffiti Show

Pera Muzesi-Museum

In a first for Istanbul and Turkey, the Pera Museum is hosting the country’s first ever exhibition dedicated to graffiti. The aptly named “Language of the Wall” runs until 5 October, and features the works of some 20 artists from the US, France, Germany, Japan and Turkey.

Pera Muzesi-Museum – Martha Cooper

The show, which features prominent early artists like Futura and Cope2, also includes photography by Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant. Curator of the museum, Roxane Ayral, offered this comment at a press conference:

“We have had a very intense [approximately] 10-day period; everybody shared something with each other. People had interaction with the walls and with each other. We experienced similar feelings with the originators of this art which started in the 1970s in New York to maintain peace.”

The exhibit includes works by; Futura, Carlos Mare, Cope 2, Turbo, Wyne, JonOne, Tilt, Mist, Psyckoze, Craig Costello (aka KR), Herakut, Logan Hicks, C215, Suiko, Evol, Gaia, Tabone, Funk and No More Lies, along with selected photographs from the archive of leading artists Martha Cooper, Henry Chalfant and Hugh Holland.
