Good news for Romania tourism, leading tour operators TUI and ITS have decided not to withdraw from the market there for the coming year. According to the news, the Romanian Ministry of Tourism and Regional Development’s (MDRT’s) recent talks with the German companies ended in success apparently.

The Ministry plans of bolstering relationships with tour companies appears to be at the heart of the decision. The need for analysis and reporting back to TUI or any company with interests in Romania is essential for decision makers in the travel business. Cristian Barhalescu, state secretary for tourism at MDRT, told Business Review Romania:
“German tour operators will not exit the Romanian market next year. We have talked about the marketing and communication strategies we are preparing at market level but also for German travel agencies so that we can generate sales increases on the German market and not only.”
And, the ministry says they will begin to take steps to pay German tour operators for outstanding debts from last year which now exceed €287,500. TUI and ITS are vital to Romania’s tourism industry. Clearly it is in the best interest of businesses tied to tourism in Romania that the government join in in promoting German tourism, among other regional engagements. In fact, this was one of the biggest reasons TUI and ITS threatened to leave the market.
