Carlson Names Veteran Trudy Rautio CEO

Global hospitality firm Carlson has announced Trudy Rautio (at left) as the new president and CEO after Hubert Joly steps down. The move makes Rautio on the 5th head of the company in its 74 year history. The family owned business includes the brands Radisson Hotels, T.G.I Friday’s, and Carlson Wagonlit Travel.

Rautio has been an exec with Carlson for the past 15 years, most recently executive vice president, CFO and chief administrative officer. According to the news from Carlson, Joly stepped down to pursue other career opportunities.

Carlson, which employs more than 170,000 people in over 150 countries, is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minn. Rautio made the following statement via the press release:

“I am honored to accept the leadership role of this dynamic company as Carlson progresses through its Ambition 2015 goals. I am appreciative of the support given to me by the board of directors and the members of the Carlson family and am excited about the future opportunities for each of our businesses.”

In other people moves from Carlson, just last week the company announced Mary Plunkett as the new vice president, Global Talent Management and Development. A scholar and practitioner in human resource development, Plunkett has a doctorate in organizational psychology, a Master of Science degree in applied experimental psychology, and BS in psychology.

So far in August, people moves, Radisson openings, and Carlson incentive initiatives paved the way for Rautio’s appointment.
