Founded by former Army Rangers Blake Hall and Matthew Thompson, Troopswap is a profit/non-profit venture aimed at the military community. After serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, the founders teamed up at Harvard with the idea to help service people and families with targeted deals, and to donate a portion of revenue to those wounded in service of America. Blake Hall, CEO of the fledgling company, has this to say about the news:

“Military discounts are commonly offered throughout the country but, until now, those discounts have not caught up with the current revolution in local commerce. This round of funding allows us to open new markets where TroopSwap will feature more military-friendly businesses while furthering our company’s mission: to reward a life of service.”

Troopswap hires those betrothed or married to those in the military, in their locality. The organization also donates 10% of its profits to the Wounded Warriors Project, and also garners deals with local businesses to expand and help their social mission of helping those in military families and wounded veterans. As a for instance; Skydive Suffolk shut down public operations to work with Troopswap in the Wounded Warriors Fundraiser on August 14th. In that fundraiser, 30 Wounded Warriors from the project that served in all wars dating back to the Korean War will have the opportunity to skydive thanks to the corporate and individual sponsors.

Perdew is a part of Troopswap’s board as well. Previous investor was David Tisch the Managing Director of TechStars NYC.
