TripAdvisor Ranked Crete Among the Best Places on Earth Again

Crete just scored another major TripAdvisor “Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best” award, ranking among the top destinations in Europe and the world.

  • Crete is listed among the top global and European destinations in TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best awards.
  • The ranking is based on millions of traveler reviews and ratings worldwide.
  • Regional Governor Stavros Arnaoutakis called the award a “justification of collective effort.”
  • He credited the Region, tourism bodies, employees, and local businesses for keeping Crete consistently high in visitor preference.

Crete has just received another international distinction — the kind that arrives every year like a polite reminder to the planet: yes, the island is still irresistible.

According to TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best awards, Crete once again ranks among the leading destinations worldwide and in Europe, based on millions of traveler reviews and ratings across the platform.

For the Region of Crete, this is not just another trophy for the shelf. It is another line in a long story: Crete stays near the top because visitors keep voting for it with their holidays — and their comments.

Arnaoutakis Calls It “Collective Justification”

Regional Governor Stavros Arnaoutakis, reacting to the announcement, expressed satisfaction with the new recognition, framing it as a validation of the island’s shared effort.

He described the ranking as “a justification of the collective effort,” pointing directly to everyone who carries Cretan tourism on their backs:

  • the Region
  • tourism bodies
  • employees
  • and local entrepreneurs

Arnaoutakis also emphasized that Crete’s stable presence in the top positions confirms the island’s tourism strength — its “product,” as officials like to call it.

And while the phrase “tourism product” is not exactly romantic, it means people keep coming back.

Because Crete, in the end, does not win awards with slogans.

It wins them over with reality, lower prices than in other Greek destinations, and the legendary philoxenia, which means that in Crete, you are a stranger only once.
